Hybrid closed loop technology for patients with Type 1 diabetes – NHS Suffolk and North East Essex ICB

On December 19, 2023, the National Institute for Health care Excellence (NICE) released new guidelines regarding the use of hybrid closed loop technology (sometimes referred to as HCL or artificial pancreas) for patients with Type 1 diabetes.

NHS systems have been given five years starting from April 1. 2024, to fully implement the recommendations in the NICE guidelines.

During this time, clinical teams within Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Systems will be working together to identify those Type 1 patients with the greatest clinical need, and who meet the criteria stipulated in NICE TA 943, to ensure they are provided with this technology first, as recommended by NHS England’s national implementation strategy.

As someone with Type 1 diabetes you may already be known to your specialist, please be assured they will contact you in due course. For patient Q & A please click hereĀ
