20th October 2014
The North East Essex Diabetes Service (NEEDS) is inviting Jaywick residents living with diabetes to a coffee morning to discuss the creation of a local patient-led diabetes group. The event will take place on Tuesday 4th November, 10am at Jaywick Methodist Church.
The idea for the local diabetes group in Jaywick is that it will be run by the patients who will receive help and support from the NEEDS service. NEEDS will provide diabetes specialists nurses or other speakers for meetings to help improve patient understanding and management of diabetes. They will also use feedback from the patient group to help improve the care provided by the service.
A priority for the NEEDS service, which began operation in April 2014, is to improve patient education and involvement and there are already diabetes groups established in Clacton, Colchester and Harwich which provide an opportunity for diabetes patients to meet each other, learn more about their condition and have an input into their care.
Julie Smith, Operations Director, Suffolk GP Federation, said: “In order to increase patient involvement we are looking to create some new patient-led groups in North East Essex including in Jaywick and Walton-on-the-Naze. These groups have shown to be a great way for people to learn about and manage their Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and will help more people to become involved with how the NEEDS service is run.”
The coffee morning discussion for those interested in a Jaywick patient group is free to attend and will be taking place as follows:
Date: Tuesday 4th November 2014
Time: 10am – 12noon
